Being organized is a never ending effort, and getting organized is the first step in embarking down a road of clutter-free and chaos-free living. Here at the Birmingham movers, we have a few tips on how to get your home organized once and for all. Then you'll just have to keep it that way!

Birmingham Organization Tips

Make a plan and a cleaning schedule. Visualize what you want your home to look like and find images online and in decorating magazines that help you get a better grasp of what you want. Assign chores or rooms to family members and hold each other accountable for getting certain tasks completed.

Get the whole family on board and excited about making the house a more pleasant place to live. Focusing on one room at a time is a great way to take the pressure off and make it seem less tedious for everyone. Don't get distracted by other rooms and stay set on the room at hand.

Purchase organizational tools to help divide and conquer clutter. Having a dedicated place for everything and it will be easier to not only find what you are looking for, but also to put things back when you are done with them. Keeping a system of putting things away is an easy way to nip clutter and keep things clean.

Don't stress. No one expects your home to be perfect. When you begin decluttering, you will likely have to toss out a little bit at a time and that's okay. Going through clutter will bring back memories and while it's nice to reminisce on the past, it is better to do so with peace of mind and less physical things filling up your space.

Go through each room and separate things into two piles-what you need and what you don't need. Move the pile of things you don't need to either throw out (if you are ready to part with these things) or to storage somewhere to reassess in a week.

Get paper clutter under control. Toss out catalogs and other junk mail, and get a proper filing system in order for bills, statements, contracts and other papers that you need to hold on to. It's ok to discard paid bills after 12 months.

Categorize and organize items like DVDs, books, and CDs if you still have them. Have shelf space dedicated to storing these items in an organized fashion. While you are sorting, toss anything you don't actively use or need.
