This rich tradition, specific to Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, annually draws tourists by the thousands. The season kicks off this year on the 19th of February and culminates on Mardi gras day. This year, Mardi Gras is March 8th. Fat Tuesday, as it’s called by many locals is the day before Ash Wednesday. Traditionally party goers enjoy as much revelry as possible before the Lenten season begins the following day. Several Krewes have been parading through the streets of New Orleans for decades.
