Innovation Within Omaha, NE

Good ole Omaha. Famous for its agriculture, steaks, and business tycoon Warren Buffet. But there is so much more to this growing and vibrant city. If you are moving to the area, you should know a little about innovation in Omaha and its history of invention. Let your Omaha moving company give you the run down.

Billionaire Businesses

Omaha is home to more Fortune 500 companies per capita than any other metropolitan area in the country. There are five such companies that call Omaha home: Berkshire Hathaway, Mutual of Omaha, ConAgra Foods, Union Pacific, and Peter Kiewit Sons'.

This has made an indelible impact on the city and its residents. The job market is stable and full of well-paying positions at incredible companies. As jobs have become more available, more people have moved to the city, and housing downtown has grown, along with accompanying suburban areas. So whether you are looking to move to a trendy part of downtown or a more family-oriented suburb, Omaha has you covered.

If you are looking for a new job, check out what's hot in Silicone Prairie, the Silicone Valley of the Mid-West. There are plenty of start-ups, tech companies, and entrepreneurial endeavors in town.

Folks Who Changed History

Plenty of culturally significant figures have called Omaha home. Warren Buffet, “the Oracle of Omaha,” was born in the town, built many of his businesses here, and still resides in town to this day. He famously lives in a home that he paid $31,500 for in 1958.

Civil rights leader Malcolm X was also born in Omaha. The Malcolm X Memorial Foundation was built in town and features a plaza and memorial site. You can also visit his childhood home in North Omaha to see where he grew up. Former president Gerald Ford was born in Omaha too, in 1913.

Culinary Inventions

With residents like Buffet, innovation in Omaha is always in the air. Omaha is the birthplace of tons of cool foodie inventions, including the TV dinner, appreciated by moms and college kids alike. C.A. Swanson and Sons invented the wildly popular dinner in the mid-50s, when the company was still headquartered in Omaha.

Other Omaha-grown culinary inventions include the Reuben sandwich and the lesser-known Runza. The former was invented in the Blackstone Hotel by Reuben Kulakofsky during a poker game. The latter is the best-selling sandwich of the fast food restaurant of the same name. It is a delicious sandwich that contains ground beef and cabbage, held together in a Hot-Pocket-like bread casing. Absolutely delicious.

Innovating What We Buy

“Got Milk?” What about “Pork. The Other White Meat”? These memorable slogans are recognized by folks far outside of Omaha. But they were created by Bozell, Omaha's largest ad agency. Other prominent agencies include: Bailey Lauerman, SKAR, and Sudell and Partners.

Omaha has humble roots like a small Mid-Western town, but it is become a growing economic and cultural force. If you are moving to this charming city, take advantage of all that it has to offer. From amazingly fresh menus and innovative grub, to historic sites and burgeoning businesses, Omaha is a great place to live and grow.
